As someone with ADHD, it’s especially hard for me to focus on things properly, but when I do manage to get things done, it’s extremely rewarding. Trips are especially hard for me to plan, and I have to do a lot of research into things before I can even contemplate packing my bags.
Research can be a daunting task, especially when you want to do nothing more than get out there and have fun. Who needs all the pesky prep work beforehand? Here’s the thing though: A little work now will most likely save you a few headaches later on down the line. Armed with the proper research for your destination, you’ll be able to communicate efficiently, give you insights about the area you’re traveling to, and ultimately put you miles ahead of a lot of other people. Taking the time to prep now will mean more fun to be had in the later.
So you’re probably wondering what the whole purpose of research is.
Researching prior to setting off can give you deep insights into the area, telling you places to avoid and places you must go as well an endless amount of additional information which will aid your journey.
- Helps reduce culture shock
- Helps you understand social norms of different places (even places within the same country).
- Helps you avoid getting scammed
- Helps you find hidden gems at your destination.
- Gives the ability to make informed on-the-spot decisions when necessary during your trip
- Helps you build a cohesive plan for travel, as well as back up plans should something go wrong.
- Helps determine how much money you have to spend.
- Helps determine where you stay, how you get there, and what you’ll do while you’re there.
I’m gonna leave it there for today, as I’m still getting into the swing of things. It might take me a bit to get up to speed with proper posts, but bear with me and we’ll eventually get there.
See you on the road!
Definitely agree that researching and planning, especially in countries where you don’t know the language, culture and customs, makes a trip far more enjoyable.

I actually cover this a bit more in the three part Tips for Travel series I’m doing, and I may go into more depth later on. Research is absolutely vital if you’re traveling into unknown places. :3
